Tuesday, August 31, 2010

Well, today was a pretty smooth day. We had our normal cleaning stations from 0730-0830, and then we had a General Quarters drill right after cleaning stations. After GQ secured I started on my maintenance and work for this week. After dinner, my Chief, IC1, and myself went down to Port Steering to take readings on the Disconnect Unit again trying to find out what is wrong with it. After that I went and washed my Dress Whites for inspection tomorrow. I just finished ironing, and now I'm gonna go to bed lol. Hope everyone is doing ok.

Monday, August 30, 2010

So I was watching Toy Story this morning while I was on shop watch, and I noticed something in the movie that I've never noticed before. It's kind of disturbing in a way to know that this was actually in a movie meant to be seen by little kids. While in Sid's house when Sid is looking for Woody to strap to the "Big One" Rocket, he lifts up a plastic crate where Woody is hiding propped up inside the crate. He slams the crate down on his dest causing Woody to fall to the desk where he then hides under a book...this all seems very innocent if you don't know what you are looking at, but I just happened to recognize the title on the book. The book is labeled "TM 31-210" In the movie I think it's titled as "Improvised Interrogation Techniques", but in actuality, "TM 31-210" is the primary source of terrorist activity. It's titled "Improvised Munitions Handbook" created for the U.S. Army A.K.A.: Improvised Explosive Devices or IED's. This book teaches you how to make any kind of explosive or propellant out of normal everyday ingredients. Kind of disturbing isn't it?

Friday, August 27, 2010

Well, it's been a few days since I posted anything due to the internet being down for security reasons. Nothing has really happened, just the same ole crap everyday. Wake up, do maintenance, go to sleep. Nothing interesting has happened. We had a GQ drill yesterday, and supposedly we are having an abandon ship drill tomorrow. Other than that nothing new. Well, I'm signing off for now. Hope everyone else's week is more interesting.

Monday, August 23, 2010

Well, today I woke up and did cleaning stations. After Cleaning stations I had to do the man hour tracker for my workcenter and send it to my chief. After that, I cleaned up the lockers in our shop a little bit and then printed off the EGLs for everyones Maintenance this week. After that I went to lunch and after lunch we had a loss of ship's power drill where I had to man up Load Center 68A & B to bring it back up once power was restored. After that I started getting everything together for my maintenance this week and then the 1MC went down and I had to run down and fix that. After that we had our routine shop meeting at 1900. So today was just another routine day as is most lol. Well, I hope everyone elses day was more eventful than mine.

Sunday, August 22, 2010

Well, today I got to sleep in until 1230 and then I had to help the rest of the shop re-arrange the shelves, desks, chairs, and toolboxes to make the shop a little nicer. Still looks like shit though. I went on watch at 1630-2130 and now I off. The watch bill finally changed, so I don't have watch for a while (Thank God). Other than that, it was a pretty uneventful day. Well, I am taking my butt to bed, I will talk to y'all later. Hope everyone is well.

Saturday, August 21, 2010

Well, today I got to go to sleep after cleaning stations and I slep until about 1300. I got up and had to go into finish up my maintenance for the week. It was pretty easy maintenance compared to some of the others. I finished up my maintenance and they called Sea and Anchor detail because we were within 2 miles of land going through a strait. After that I stood in line for an hour and a half to get my food which was pizza, hot wings, and french fries...real healthy, I know lol. After that we had a shop meeting with our LPO and I am now back on watch until 0130. I get to sleep in tomorrow for Holiday Routine, so it's not that bad. I'm just hanging out right now helping my Firemen strip the deck. I know what it was like when I was a Fireman, so I figured I would give them some help. Me and IC3 Nieves that is lol. Well, I'm gonna go for now. I hope everyone is well, and I will talk to y'all later.

Saturday, August 21, 2010

Well, it's now 0430 in the morning. I'm on the 02-0700 watch. It's always so quiet around the ship this early it's not half bad. During the day it's always so loud. Steam pipes hissing all over the place, drain pipes gurgling, jets landing and taking off, high pressure air hissing, tools clanking... gives you a head ache most of the time. I'm just sitting here in my shop in-between my roves. Borat was just playing on TV for like the 100th time this underway.
Well, yesterday was the Shell-Back ceremony. It was pretty messy. People tracked water and green dye all over the ship and the Commanding Officer made everyone stop working after it was done and clean the ship. I don't blame him though, it was nasty. Other than that, we are back to normal underway operations. FEP is finally over, so not quite so many drills anymore, and the watch-bill changes after my next watch, so I'll be able to get a little bit more sleep. I get off watch at about 0630 today, so after cleaning stations, I'm going to bed. My eyes are at that point where they itch and water like crazy until you close them, meaning I'm getting really tired. I would be posting some pictures up, but I'm having trouble burning them off of my laptop onto a CD to put on the ships computer. Unfortunately, we are not allowed to plug any USB devices into the computers for some stupid reason, so I'll have to wait. Well, I have to go finish my watch. Everyone have a good day, and take care.

Friday, August 20, 2010

Well it's 0612 in the morning. I have to go on watch in about 15 minutes. The ship just crossed the equator a few days ago, and now we're dedicating a full day of cleansing our ship of all "Wogs". A "Wog" is a person who has never been across the equator. This marked my 4th time, so I'm pretty safe. It's so early in the morning though. This morning at about 0500, the "Shell-backs" came into the berthing banging on trash cans and setting off alarms and stuff to wake everyone up. I just figured that I would type this up real quick before I go on watch. I hope everyone else's day is exciting and safe.

Wednesday, August 18, 2010

Today was pretty much uneventful. At 0845 this morning we started a CBR General Quarters Drill. We had to put on our gas masks and set Circle William fully. It was pretty crappy. If the ship was actually attacked by Chemical weapons, I doubt that I would be able to keep that gas mask on the entire time lol. It is uncomfortable as hell. At about 1045 we secured from GQ and set Yoke. I had a short lunch break and then went straight to work doing my Maintenance. At about 1630 I had to go on Load Center Rover watch untill 2130. The Chief Selects have been making roves ahead of us posting sticky notes on the ground detectors to make sure that we are doing our roves, so I went to each load center about 3 times in 1 hour. On about my 2nd hour of roving I found a Respirator Issue card on the floor of Load Center 91 that happens to be located in the middle of a Squadron Berthing and the card belonged to a female. Unfortunately I have to report all intrusions to my Division Office, so there might be someone in trouble for being in the load center AND for what the female was actually doing in a male berthing compartment. Other than all of that, My day was pretty normal. I'm still awake because I have to wait until Flight Operations is over so I can trouble-shoot a problem with one of our steering control units, so I still have a few hours of work. It is currently 2245 in the evening. Well, signing off for the day. Everyone have a good night.
